Highlights

A tandem jump Is the most common form of charity skydive. It is the skydive where you are harnessed to a professional parachute instructor at all times throughout your descent.

Here are some important points to remember when considering a tandem skydive:

  • Your jump and training will be completed in one day
  • You will be harnessed to an experienced parachute instructor at all times
  • You will jump from an altitude of 10,000 feet
  • You will freefall the first 5,000 feet
  • You will ride the parachute to the ground after you are taught how to steer onto the drop zone
  • Your landing will be controlled by your instructor.

Weight limits

This is dependant on the airfield but is usually up to 18 stone. A surcharge of approximately £10 may apply for every stone over 15 stone. During the booking process you will be able to see the maxiumum weight limit for your chosen airfield.

Spectators

You are welcome to bring along supporters and recommend that they arrive about an hour after your arrival time – this would give you time to have your training and get kitted up.

Jumps are weather dependent, so it's not usually possible to specify a jump time prior to the day.

You will receive an arrival time once you are confirmed with the airfield – this is when you will check in and receive your training for the jump. The jump time would depend on the weather and how many other people are booked in that day. There is a small chance you could wait all day until you jump. The airfields do operate a first come first served basis – so the earlier you arrive the earlier you will jump!

Whether you’re stressed, depressed or in crisis. They’ll listen, give support and advice, and fight your corner. Thanks for fundraising for national Mind.

Fundraising page

You can set up your very own fundraising page on JustGiving.

Mind will support you to achieve your fundraising target including regular emails which include great fundraising tips!

Where does the money go?

  • 585

could help cover the cost of a Legal Line advisor for 5 days.

  • 760

could help Mind keep the online community open for 1 day.

  • 950

could help Mind's vital Infoline answer 100 people's enquiries.

How it works in practice

On booking your skydive you will be required to pay a £70 to secure your skydive place.

As soon as you reach your minimum fundraising target (ideally at least two weeks prior to your chosen jump date), Mind will pay for your skydive. If you are fundraising offline, they need to receive this money before they pay any costs. If you are raising money online, they just need you to notify them when you have reached your fundraising target.

Don’t worry if you think this is a lot of money to raise - on average Mind's skydivers raise above £500 and the charity will be here to support you every step of the way and will provide you with lots of fundraising tips and advice.

Once you sign up to do your skydive Mind will send you out the fundraising welcome pack, which is full of information that will get your fundraising campaign off to a brilliant start. To get you started, we recommend setting up an online fundraising page with Just Giving. It is very simple to set up, you’ll be guided through the process to set-up up your page. All donations made on this platforms come straight to Mind automatically (make sure to select National Mind, reg. charity no. 219830) but do feel free to check in with us and we can support you.

If you are paying for the skydive yourself, prices vary from airfield to airfield and on the type of skydive that you choose to do. You will be required to make your payment to the airfield on the day of your skydive – but you will receive further information about this on booking. Mind will still be here to support you all the way.

That was it. We were skydiving and loving it, we both had big smiles and thumbs up for the camera, the adrenaline rush and sense of euphoria was amazing.
