  • 750 m sea swimming
  • 20 km road cycling
  • 5 km multi terrain running

Event overview

The Minehead Triathlon utilises its coastal location by including a 750m open water sea swim in the shadows of North Hill within the safety of the bay.

The bike route is fast and undulating with an out-and-back route towards the village of Porlock on stunning roads flanked by the high moorland terrain of Exmoor National Park. The views are breathtaking!

Finally, you’ll take on the 5km run route. A mix of flat paved seafront promenade and the off-road trails within the woods of Culver Cliff. A ‘Cheeky Climb’ Strava segment makes for a sting in the tail before returning along the sea front to finish arms aloft on the beach!

Ability level

If you can confidently swim 100m, ride 25km and run 5-7km, that’s great. Get involved with some Go Tri events and pool-based novice and sprint triathlons over the summer. This will stand you in good stead for the Clevedon Triathlon.

Training

Training is strongly recommended. A managed acclimatisation swim the day before is on offer. You can also join the ‘mid-week warriors’ community group to help with your training.

Safety

Safety across the event will come in the form of kayakers for the swim section and appropriately positioned marshalls for the bike and run courses.

A great event that was well organised and marshalled. Communication prior to the triathlon was very clear, and the course was well marked with friendly marshals along the way. I’ll definitely be back for 2025! Josh M

First time volunteering as a marshal at a Triathlon Event. Wow, what an amazing day. The organisation from start to finish was outstanding. An awesome turnout of athletes of all abilities. Big crowds, great weather. Safety throughout was spot on. Thank you. Alistair C

This is the first event in my race calendar every year. I love the course, the location and the friendliness of the event. Thanks team. See you next year!:-) Claire E

Fantastic beach start swim format, with 2 laps and a run back to the start line in between. This kept the swim course safe inshore and great for spectators. Suitable for both experienced and beginner triathletes as there were 2 separate waves of a mass start, and a 5-second interval start. The bike course was an out-and-back course, which was easy to navigate. The run was flat apart from a section of trial running which included a challenging slope! Well-organised and friendly event. Martin J

Another great edition of the Minehead triathlon! Always a great vibe. It's a great combination of being a large enough event to have a great crowd and competitors, whilst remaining accessible. Steven G

Amazing throughout. Best company ever I feel so lucky to be a.part of this community and represent the tribe whether taking part in events or marshaling:) Luke J

First triathlon. Was nervous. All the pre race pack and pre events were so useful. Everyone was so helpful on the day from getting my race pack to racking my bike to the finishing line with the marshals help along the way. Really well organised Brilliant event Thank for making my first triathlon a brilliant experience. Got the bug for it now. Virginie M

Minehead Triathlon is not just another quick, flat sprint. This event is one of my favourites and I will be back next year. Tim F

Loved every moment of this event! The atmosphere was great! Vince I

This event was a return to Triathlon for me after a long absence. From start to finish it was excellent. The organisers were brilliant ,as were all the marshalls. The event catered for all abilities and I would thoroughly recommend it. Paul S

Really like that there was a second wave for less competitive and new to triathlon participants. Joanna T
