Event overview

This one is a corker.

Traffic free and with a flat-ish surface throughout, the Monsal Trail is made up from a former Midland railway line taking you through four railway tunnels and across the spectacular Monsal Viaduct.

Surrounded by beautiful countryside, this half marathon is ideal for spring marathon training. It's suitable for experienced runners but also a great introduction to the half marathon distance for runners of all abilities. Or, perhaps you fancy the 10K option...? A racing treat at any distance, you'll want to join this sell-out race.

By car

The race will start and finish at Bakewell Station. Please note that there will be no car parking at Bakewell Station, other than for disabled motorists. However, there are plenty of car parking facilities in the town centre – two large pay and display car parks are located around 500 metres from the Station. The road to Bakewell Station is a ‘No through road’ and so it isn’t feasible for runners to be dropped off – there is nowhere to turn around.

There is also parking, spectator facilities, an excellent café just a mile or so along the trail at Hassop Station, providing a pleasant warm up run to the start.

Overview

The race starts and finishes at Bakewell Station and heads along the Monsal Trail to a turnaround point at Miller’s Dale, before returning to Bakewell and the finish. The course is multi terrain, on a mixture of tarmac and hard track. Runners in the 10K will be following the same half marathon route, but turn at the 5K mark (inside the first tunnel) to return back to the finish at Bakewell Station.

The course will be traffic-free but will be used by other Trail users including walkers, dog walkers, horses and cyclists. We ask that all runners keep to the left hand side of the trail, to be aware of, and respect, other trail users and take extra care where the trail narrows.

This was a fantastic race, relatively small field so there was a sense of camaraderie that you lose in the bigger races... The views were stunning, marshalls friendly and the course varied and interesting. I will be doing this again next year definitely. Claire E

This was my first half marathon, and I would definitely run it again.

The route was flat, easy to follow (out and back on a disused railway), and had loads of  hearing points for spectators.

The organisers had done a marvellous job of making sure runners were looked after, with numerous feed stations with water, coke, fig rolls, jelly babies and jaffa cakes. Matt D

A very nice race, a cool medal and spot prizes of Bakewell puddings for random finishers. Enjoy folks. Paul N

An excellent event and one that I look forward to trying my hand at again next year, and hopefully another PB. Adam J

It's a flat, out and back race along the Monsal Trail. It's a great course for a PB. Claire C
