Sherwood Pines is located just east of Mansfield in Nottinghamshire. It is a stunning 3,300-acre forest with multiple activities to keep families and adrenaline junkies entertained.
The full address for the venue is Sherwood Pines, Edwinstowe, Mansfield NG21 9JL.
If you are using a SatNav for directions then please make sure it is taking you to the main center of the forest and not to an entrance on the south side of the forest.
There is ample parking available in the forest's car parking area which is located just a few minutes walk from the event village. Parking is charged at £10 for the day, but runners will receive a half-price discount code in the event booklet that will be emailed out to you prior to event day. You will need to pay for parking at a kiosk just before you leave.
Unfortunately, neither the half or full marathon routes are suitable for wheelchairs due to it taking part in a forest, through trails and firetracks. The event village is accessible during dry periods but please be aware that it is based on a large grassed area which can become muddy in bad weather.
The nearest train stations are Mansfield and Retford.
Mansfield has a public bus to the county park roughly every 15 minutes (Bus No. 14, 15 or 15A to Archway Road or Sherwood Pines). This does vary at the weekend and it is always best to check the timetables before booking. After the bus, there is around a 1-mile walk into the forest to the start line.
It is best to pre-book a taxi to the start line. If you are staying overnight before the event and using public transport, look at places to stay in Edwinstone, Clipstone, or Ollerton.
The marathon will be two beautiful 13.1-mile loops around the Sherwood Pines forest.
The start and finish line will be located in the area of the forest called the arena, and in the center will be the event village. When you return to the arena at the end of your run (and halfway through if your taking on the marathon), you will run a loop around the full event village where you can expect support from everyone watching and waiting, as well as the event MC and DJ.
The trails and fire roads will take you around all areas of the forest, from those teaming with life to areas of blissful quiet. The official route will be announced closer to the event but you can expect roughly 500m of elevation over the two loops.
8 hours.
The event has a very generous cut off time of 8 hours. People of all abilities are encouraged to come and complete the challenge!
Aid stations throughout the course will be roughly at miles 2, 6, 9, 10, 13.1, 15, 19, 22, 23. These will range from just water and sports drink to fruit, sweets, and pretzels.
The course will be fully signed in bright yellow reflective arrows so that you always know the route.
By taking part, you're helping to save the planet.
This event believes in helping the environment as much as possible. This is why it uses fully recyclable and biodegradable packaging, plants trees for every person who signs up, as well as funds plastic removal from the world’s waterways.
Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for both the male and female categories.
If the event has not sold out by race day then you will be able to sign up at the Information Tent on the day.

Fantastic marathon around Sherwood Pines. Really well organised, loads of well stocked feed stations, marshals everywhere, no chance of getting lost as direction signs everywhere. Tough course but defo do it again and would run with Rasselbock without any second thoughts. Nigel Saxby
The Summer 2024 edition of The Rasselbock Run was my first Rasselbock event, and I absolutely loved it! The race was well-organised, the on-course directional signage was perfect and the proffered snacks were sumptuous! Especially the German Friendship Cake. OMG. And to top it all off, the good folk of Rasselbock and all the race marshals were such a lovely bunch of people. I can't fault the race at all and feel very fortunate to have these races pretty much on my doorstep. I'll be back for more, for sure. Thank you to all involved. Tim Vincent
