No other Sportive organisation knows Yorkshire like Velo29 do!
We grew up here and still today spend our time exploring this stunning part of the World on a bike. Ronde translates to Circle Of and this certainly is a ‘Circle of Yorkshire’. An early season event which took in as much of this brilliant area as possible, we think we’ve achieved that. There are Hills of course! We find the first (Clay Bank) in the opening 10km! The short departs Medium and Long at the top of Clay to enjoy Bilsdale and Newgate Bank before re-joining M&L at the Feed. Medium and Long twist through some of Yorkshire’s finest roads, Heartbeat Country if you know it? Kildale, Castleton, Danby, Lealholm, Glaisdale, Egton, Rosedale….we’ve picked the best route through. The long route drops into Whitby, it’s worth the extra KM to ride up the Keiber Pass to the Whale Bone, along the cliff top then down to Sandsend. The coastline here is amazing! The good news is that Medium and Long get to ride up Rosedale Chimney before heading South to Helmsley and then back along the delightful Hawnby to Osmotherley Road. Flat all the way back to HQ for an amazing medal, hot BBQ and can of erdinger alkoholfrei! A must do event for any keen rider. The title Ronde was inspired by Richard’s years in France riding The Ronde Finistere, a series of super tough races based in Finistere, Brittany. ‘It’s always nice to keep the memories alive in our own events’ comments Richard.
