Solway Coast AONB

The Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) was designated in December 1964 in recognition of the quality of its landscape and its significant historic and scientific interest. It stretches from Rockcliffe in the North to Maryport in the South, covering about 115 square kilometers of the Solway Plain. The primary purpose of this designation is to conserve and enhance the natural beauty of the area.

Route description

Flat course with a few small hills. Only 73 metres of gain.

This is an officially measured and certified accurate course by the Association of UK Course Measurers.

The route starts approximately 800m from the White Heather Hotel and finishes in the hotel grounds. This course is best described as flat and is a must for anyone looking for a PB. The roads are quiet country roads and very flat with one small climb that gives you a nice downhill run towards the finish. The course takes you one big loop through Kirkbride, Newton Arlosh, Lessonhall taking a left back towards Kirkbride and the finish.

Water stations

The Water stations will be positioned at approx 4 miles and 8 miles. Water will be in bottles. You will be required to take the bottle from the table; they will not be handed to you.

Prize presentation

The Prizes for the 1st 2nd and 3rd Male and Female finishers will take place approx. 10 minutes after the 3rd Male/Female crosses the finish line. The remaining age group prizes will be paid via BACS payment within 7 days.

Prizes

1st, 2nd and 3rd Male and Female. Age groups 20 to 29, 30 to 39 etc. – these prizes will be awarded as follows: Male or Female age groups with less than 17 competitors 1st Place only, Male or Female age groups with 18 or more competitors 1st and 2nd place and Male or Female age groups with 28 or competitors 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes will be awarded.
