CAFOD & SCIAF

Walk to help fight global poverty.

Who are CAFOD and SCIAF?

A green and just world, free from poverty, is possible.

CAFOD and SCIAF are the official relief and development agencies of the Catholic Church for England and Wales (CAFOD) and for Scotland (SCIAF), and we are both members of the global Caritas Internationalis family.

They are teaming up this year because they know that working together means that everyone can make an even bigger difference.

Their goal: to get thousands of teams or individual walkers to join together, walking and fundraising and raising awareness of inequality across the world. Together means big change can happen.

The money you raise by taking part in the Big Lent Walk will enable us to continue fighting global poverty and working through expert local partners to bring real-life change to communities overseas.

Why are we walking this Lent?

Your sponsorship can and will change lives. Every £1 raised through the Big Lent Walk will help fight poverty globally in countries like Afghanistan, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan.

CAFOD and SCIAF have a shared project in Ethiopia and are working together to respond to the devastating food crisis there. Years of drought caused by the climate crisis means families are no longer able to cope, but your support means they are working with people right now, providing them with water, emergency food and healthcare.

With your hard work and sponsorship this Lent, they can change families' lives for good and tell poverty to take a hike.

I feel that the Big Lent Walk presents the perfect solution. My plan to walk the Hadrian’s Wall Path will allow for plenty of challenging self-reflection, whilst raising money for those in need at the same time! Sam

This really will be a challenge, but what an amazing one! Made even more special because my daughter will be doing it alongside me. Claire

I’m so excited to be a part of this. I love what CAFOD is doing, and I love even more that it is rooted from Catholic beginnings. Yve

I started doing the Big Lent Walk for CAFOD. I’ve always supported CAFOD, and the Big Lent Walk was a great way to continue that. Fr Tony

One of the worst things in the world is poverty. CAFOD has committed itself to alleviating poverty, and I can support them in that work through my Big Lent Walk. Fr Tony
