The Salmon Run celebrates the epic journey of the salmon, it’s struggle to reach it’s destination and to survive in a changing climate.
Following the success of last year’s Salmon Run, the event is partnering with Exmouth CIC Tidelines again to bring you 3 runs in one day - a run for all abilities.
If the salmon are good and healthy, the whole catchment is good and healthy, including all the other wildlife and the population that live in the catchment. The salmon is a proxy for everything. (Edwin Third, Dee River)

The Salmon Run Ultra was born of Salmon Run, a team relay run launched with Tidelines in 2022 to celebrate the Exe Atlantic salmon and its epic journey struggle to reach the spawning grounds on Exmoor and to survive in an increasingly difficult global climate.
The route starts from Exmouth Mamhead Slipway and travels upriver through changing terrain to Tarr Steps on the edge of Exmoor following the salmonโs migratory route on its journey to where it began. All runners (experienced and new to ultra running) get the chance to empathise with the salmonโs struggle!
The run will coincide with World Rivers Day and a special River Exe Celebration day. As well as the ultra 50 mile, there will a separate salmon relay run, which will start at the same time at Exmouth Mamhead slipway with a fish invocation marking the beginning of the journey. A hand-crafted salmon baton will be handed to the first relay team to be exchanged in series of relay teams. The ultra run will be independent after the start at Exmouth.
