Event overview

Surrounded by beautiful countryside the traffic-free trail is ideal for a cracking marathon.

The Tissington Trail, the site of a former railway line from Ashbourne to Buxton, runs along a 13 mile route from Parsley Hay to Ashbourne in Derbyshire and because the route is slightly downhill on the way back, you've got gravity on your side! The race is suitable for both experienced and first-time marathon runners.

runner

The route gently climbs up through glorious Peak District scenery before turning around with a 13.1 mile downhill finish – so fast times are likely. The race is an out and back from Ashbourne to Parsley Hay along the traffic-free Tissington Trail. The route gently climbs uphill towards Parsley Hay before heading slightly downhill and all the way back; its a great course for runners of all abilities and a fantastic introduction to the marathon distance for runners of all abilities.

My first marathon. Very friendly. Lovely marshals. Plenty of drinks and snacks. Good communication and contingency arrangements for the flood near the start line. Route is a steady climb on an old railway, so very shallow, but downhill on the way back which is lovely. Definitely recommend this one. Ant

The Tissington trail marathon is the upgrade to the half marathon event. The route is there and back along the Tissington trail route from Ashbourne to Parsley Hay (half marathon start) with some lovely views of Derbyshire if the weather is kind. Event admin is easy and the HQ is in a nearby sports centre, route is easy as it’s the only track to follow, aid stations are frequently and well run. As the return leg is slightly down hill a possible PB is achievable. Chris B
