Fitness level

Ride the Night is non-competitive and isn’t designed for professional athletes. It’s designed for women from all cycles of life looking for a challenge to get fit and push themselves out of their comfort zone to raise funds for people facing cancer.

Cycling 100km (approx. 62 miles) or 50km (approx. 31 miles) in one night is a mighty challenge, but it’s achievable if you train. You'll be provided with a downloadable training plan.

A number of the women who will take part in this exciting challenge will have a low fitness level when they sign up. Ride the Night is the perfect motivation to train and get fit, all whilst raising funds for amazing charities.

Team fundraising

You’re more than welcome to sign up and fundraise as a team. Note that all participants need to fundraise a minimum of £199 each. That means if you are fundraising as a team, you will need to fundraise £199 for every member of that team. For example, if you have a team of two people, your fundraising page will have a joint target of £398.

Bike type

Road, hybrid, electric bike, hand bike.

You need to bring your own bike and cycling helmet.

Both routes are on road – therefore a road or hybrid bike is recommended. If you plan to use a mountain bike you are advised to fit road tyres for the challenge.

You are welcome to use an electric bike or hand bike. If you are using a hand bike, you must let the organisers know beforehand. It is recommended that your bike is serviced before the challenge to minimise the chance of any mechanical problems. The event mechanics may not be able to assist with problems specific to electric or hand bikes.

It is also essential that you have front and rear lights fitted on your bike. Please bring spare batteries too. Bike mechanics are provided but please bring a spare inner tube that is specific to your bike, should you get a puncture on the challenge.

Parking

Plenty of parking is available at the beautiful Royal Windsor Racecourse. On arrival to the Rider Entrance at the racecourse, a Ride the Night steward will greet and direct you.

After completing the ride, you’ll need to be patient when exiting the car park, as there may still be riders coming into the racecourse.

Camping

At Windsor Racecourse, camping for small camper vans and small tents is available for participants. Facilities are basic and it is meant for participants to get some sleep before travelling home without having the extra cost of a hotel. There are toilets but no showers or changing facilities.

By rail

The nearest train stations to the racecourse are Windsor and Eton Central, Windsor and Eton Riverside, and Slough. Trains to these stations run from Paddington and Waterloo, and taxis are available from all. You should consider that trains can only take a limited number of bikes and these spaces are not usually bookable.

By coach

There is also a National Express coach stop less than a mile from Windsor Racecourse.

By taxi

If you intend to take a bike in a taxi, you should agree this with the company or driver in advance.

Cycling around central London at night, what is there not to like. Great camaraderie with all those taking part. Lovely atmosphere.

The event is very well organised, communication is always good and the atmosphere on the night is amazing. There is something special about riding through London in the middle of the night and the volunteers and staff team that work on the feed stations, the marshalls, at the start and finish of the ride are all brilliant and keep you going.

I’ve taken part in this amazing event since 2014 and will continue to do so as it very well organised.

Come on ladies, I did the 100km challenge and I’d never been on a bike before I signed up. You have people cheering you all the way around and an absolutely fantastic feeling when you finish! I will definitely do it again! When I signed up, I was the same as everyone else, like “sure I can do this,” but as the time got closer, I started to question why I had entered – but I’m so glad I did!

It was organised so well that I had no doubts when I arrived. Yes, 100km sounds a lot, but you just do it. We did it in eight hours and it was pain free. So if I could do it in the stupid weather we had, then anyone can! Joanne

It was such an amazing night, everything well organised, people so friendly, awesome opportunity to do something good whilst having fun.
