Cycling ability

You need to be confident to ride on open roads and in traffic. All riders are chip-timed but Palace to Palace is not a race, most people take part to enjoy a fun cycle ride! Many participants are not experienced cyclists, but some people who take part are experienced and try to beat personal best times. Advanced cyclists are encouraged to take part in the Ultra.

Ride time

Finish times vary greatly with some riders finishing in just a couple of hours whilst others take all day. There is no rush but the finish festival does close at 17.00. If you think the ride will take you most of the day, start in one of the earlier waves.

Bike type

Road bikes, mountain bikes, handcycles, e-bikes, tandems.

All bikes need to be in good working order and will be checked at the start line before you set off.

Timetable

  • 07:30 | Event Village opens
  • 07:45 | Walkers arrive (your bib number and timing chip will be posted in advance so there is no need to register on the day)
  • 08:00 | The Palace Walk starts with walkers setting off in phases to spread everyone out
  • 08:00 | Palace to Palace cycle ride starts in waves
  • 17:00 | Festival closes

Spectators

Fans are encouraged to meet you at the finish so they can cheer you on as you cross the finish line and watch you collect your fantastic medal. The finish festival includes live music, children's entertainment, a bar and plenty of food stalls so you can lay back and relax after your challenge!

Dogs

Sadly, the Racecourse does not allow dogs on site so you will not be able to walk with a dog. However, guide dogs are permitted.

Accessibility

The walking route is not fully accessible. There are sections along the footpaths which have step access.

Fitness level

A half marathon walk is not to be underestimated; walkers should be able to comfortably walk a minimum of 10km before undertaking the event.

Runners

You may run the route instead however, the event timings are based on walking speeds so if you do decide to run then just be aware that water stations may not be ready.
