The cycling community in the UK is firmly established, with over 2,000 clubs and many more non-affiliated members. In fact, one of the few good things to come out of lockdown was the emergence of a new cohort of cyclists keen to explore the great outdoors on two wheels.
Although we list plenty of competitive cycling events - including sportives, TTs and off-road races - these road leisure cycles are all about simply enjoying the freedom of cruising on two wheels. Taking place across the UK, from Stirling to Sidley, they are opportunities to explore new stretches of road without needing to crank the gears up.
That's not to say that these rides are entirely easy, though. Ranging from 25 to over 150 miles, novices and experienced riders alike will be tested on these routes that can encompass some challenging climbs and technical corners.
Many of these mass-participation events will include some level of fundraising, like the Big Blue Bike Ride organised by Prostate Cancer UK which asks all riders to raise £200, receiving technical kit in return. This won't be true of all events but it's well worth checking in advance.
