Get active in April and raise money because every 15 minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with bowel cancer.
To get involved, you just have to do something active every day for the whole of April. Simple, right?
You decide what to do. It could be cycling round the park or doing keepy-uppies in the garden, puffing to the top of your nearest hill – or even to the top of the stairs. You don’t need to be a superhero (but you will be to us!).
That’s because your small steps could help make giant leaps to research the causes of bowel cancer and effective treatments.
So what are you waiting for? Get up, stretch out and join the happy (and slightly sweaty) community of people who are limbering up for a life-changing cause.
This challenge is for everyone, regardless of fitness level or ability. Here are just some of the many benefits to you:
This virtual challenge highlights the importance of keeping your physical and mental well-being in check. Getting involved in a virtual challenge like this can help to keep you motivated and healthy, whilst also raising awareness of Bowel Cancer UK.
How you choose to get active is entirely up to you - it could be anything from going for a walk, to doing an online yoga class or even some gardening.
There's no specific time you need to be active for - you just get active each day. This will be different for everyone which is what makes ActiveApril so much fun.
For instance, you could go for a 5K run one day, and do 15 minutes of yoga/gardening/housework the next! It's entirely up to you.
You can take part on your own, or with family and friends.
This is a fun, physical challenge to bring your team together virtually! You'll be able to create team pages if you have multiple teams in your company taking part. You can also have a joint fundraising target for your teams, or the company as a whole.
The goal is to raise £100 and you'll be inspired to get started...
Whatever you need, you've got it - from eye-catching social media images, to sponsorship forms. You can download a 30-day calendar to track your progress, or share the impact poster with your family and friends to inspire those donations to come in.
Want to shout about your challenge on social media? Or maybe you prefer to keep your fundraising more traditional?
Why Bowel Cancer UK needs your support
Bowel cancer is the UK's second biggest cancer killer. However it shouldn’t be because it is treatable and curable especially if diagnosed early.
Nearly everyone survives bowel cancer if diagnosed at the earliest stage. However this drops significantly as the disease develops. Early diagnosis really does save lives.
Every 15 minutes someone is diagnosed with bowel cancer - that’s nearly 43,000 people every year, nearly 120 people every day. Your fundraising will help the charity continue to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer.
How the money you raise can help
Your fundraising will help bring closer the day where nobody will die of bowel cancer.
Providing expert information and support for everyone affected by bowel cancer.
Campaigning for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care.
Funding research that improves the prevention, early detection and treatment of the disease.
Running training for healthcare professionals and offering a dedicated team of volunteers to give free awareness talks to workplaces and community groups across the UK.
How your sponsorship money could help
Could help to deliver two awareness talks, sharing information about the signs and symptoms of bowel cancer.
Could provide an hour's expert nurse support on the Ask The Nurse service.
Could help support policy research to improve bowel screening.
Could allow researchers to do three hours of research focused on early diagnosis of bowel cancer.
Everyone on the team will sign up for the event and create their fundraising page during the registration process.
When setting up your team page, you can choose to make it public, so anyone can search for and join it when they register, or you can allow others to join by invitation only.
Once they’ve joined, you’ll be able to see how much everyone has raised individually as well as collectively.
The Events Team is on hand to help you get set up and moving!

I walked over 100km and raised over £1,000
I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2021, following a routine screening. My target was to walk 60km during the month. In the end walked over 100km and raised over £1,000.
Several of my friends did their bowel cancer screening test as a result of my efforts which was brilliant. Tommy, 2021 participant
I had so much support from family and friends
During April 2022, I chose to take part in the event as I wanted to be able to focus on a daily task during my chemotherapy treatment. The challenge really pushed me during the difficult days of treatment.
I had so much support from family and friends who helped me complete my 30 minute walk every day and always brought a smile to my face when I completed it each day. I felt a sense of achievement. Gemma, 2022 participant
