Event overview

A fun unmarked mixed course; some parts fast and runnable on vehicle tracks, some parts flowing trails, some parts road, some parts boggy slog fest climbs, all parts fun. And all for a good cause- raising money for Morecambe Bay Foodbank and other local charities. This event is in the north in January, and although we might get a lovely sunny day please be prepared for interesting conditions. These conditions can include rain from all angles at once, ice and snow, high winds and frost conditions. The route is a unmarked course covering a wonderful mix of shooting tracks, techy singletrack, road and sections of bog. Starting and finishing at Slaidburn, gateway to the Forest of Bowland, the 42 mile (68km) route with 1,700m of ascent will challenge and excite runners of all calibres. But with 4 full equipped aid stations, and with safety teams on the hill, every runner who toes the start line will have a fighting chance of taming the beast of Bowland. A map will be provided at registration  but it is highly recommended that runners load a GPS or similar device but should be prepared to rely on analogue navigation as cold weather will drain battery life on devices. A route description will also be provided. Should you wish to rely solely on the map and no GPS we would reccomend bringing your own either printed or OS map- OL41 (Forest of Bowland & Ribblesdale). Your entry fee includes 4 on course aid stations with hot food and refreshments, a finishers meal and finishers momento, GPS tracking for your friends and family to follow at home and a great day out on the Bowland Fells. There will be bag drop available at the race HQ but no on course bag drops are available (unless unique food requirements which we will try to cater for). Aid stations will provide warm drinks, soups and sandwiches and CP3 a pasta meal. The GPX for the main route, and the bad weather/Eco route is available online. Details on which will be used will be communicated but please prepare for either.
