First held in 2003, this fun but challenging event, held every Autumn, is a popular fixture on the North Staffs Road Runners Association programme. Run on picturesque, quiet lanes, the course winds from Standon through the beautiful villages of Chapel Chorlton and Maer, with a small hill or two along the way! Up to 300 athletes may compete. The race finishes outside Race HQ at the local school in Standon where there are ample refreshments to suit the weather, which at that time of the year can be, ahem, ‘variable’. Plenty of car parking is available at the nearby Standon Mill courtesy of Youngs Animal Feeds. A new course record was set in 2023 by Nicholas Barry of Sale Harriers in 52:44, surpassing the previous record of 53:35 held by Ben Gamble of Tipton Harriers. The race, however, is to be enjoyed by most of us ‘mere mortals’, at whatever speed we want!
