This will be the 3rd running of the event, the 112 mile course records were set by Cees Van Der Land in 26:13:26 (2022) and Rebecca Cesar de Sa in 35:29:55 (2022) The 52 mile fastest efforts came from John Bottomley in 9:31:00 (2022) and Ally Love in 13:54:00 (2023) Our 2023 North Loop 112-mile Ultramarathon starts at the medieval village of Blanchland. Shortly after, by way of Hexham with its magnificent Abbey, Hadrian’s Wall is reached – Alfred Wainwright’s 1938 objective. The route follows probably the best 20 miles of this World Heritage Site, with opportunities to delve into the history of the Roman occupation of Britain, particularly at Housesteads. The 52-mile option starts at the market town of Alston and follows the same route as the 112 back to Blanchland. We will provide you with race support approximately every 10-12 miles. 52-mile runners can have one drop bag, and 112-mile runners two. 52 mile runners will have 24 hrs to complete the route. New in 2023 and continuing in 2024, a relay race on the full 112 mile route, with teams made of 3, the first leg from Blanchland to Greenhead is 37.6 miles long, leg 2, Greenhead to Dufton is 40.1 miles and leg 3, Dufton back to Blanchland is 34.77. The route is permanently waymarked, but very unclear in places which is why entrants are expected to be able to use a map and compass as well as illustrating some hill experience.
