The Real Ale Ramble is held annually in conjunction with the 10-day Mid-Wales Beer Festival, when the town is awash with real ales.

Although the town boasts three hostelries, there are virtually no pubs that you can stop off at for refreshments if you go for a walk in the surrounding countryside. To address this deficiency we have simply created our own beer stops, at the checkpoints along the routes. Walking amongst beautiful scenery with free beer along the way, what more could you ask for? The event is non-competitive, and a qualifying event towards the award scheme promoted by the IVV (International Federation of Popular Sports) through the British Walking Federation (www.bwf-ivv.org.uk). Certificates of completion are also available for all participants. The Ramble begins from the Town Square and follows either a 12 or 20 mile waymarked route. There are 2/3 checkpoints along the way where a choice of Welsh real ales is provided, in exchange for beer tokens issued to you at the walk registration. There is free live music in the pubs on Friday and Saturday evening. Entry is £12 for one day or £20 for both days, with online entries closing 7 days before the event. You can still enter on the day, but the cost is £15 for one day or £25 for both.
