The band of climbers Toughest 100 is the hardest sportive of its kind in the UK.
Back for 2024, the Toughest 100 has a whole new venue, more climbs, and, for those that dare, a new monster XL route. A 100 mile edition with 4800m of climbing (16,000ft). No flat. No recovery. This is the toughest 100. The Band of Climbers Toughest 100 is a one day sportive that will take place near Sheffield in 2024. Designed, organised, and route tested by the Band of Climbers team, we've tweaked the 2023 route, added a brand new, much bigger start and finish venue, and included a monster XL route which makes this the hilliest Sportive in the UK. The original route is actually just over 100km in length (68miles), and is the hardest UK Sportive of its kind you may ever ride. What it lacks in distance, it makes up for in elevation. Over 3200m (10,500ft) of climbing awaits, over 22 steep and savage climbs. For perspective, The Toughest 100 has 65% more elevation per mile than the the Fred Whitton. 'The Fred' has 85ft of elevation per mile. The Toughest 100 has 154ft of climbing per mile. That's 29m of elevation per km, compared to 17.5m per km on 'The Fred'. We've stripped out the flat roads, deliberately. No rest, no recovery, just climb after climb.
