What a great venue for an off-road race!
In the heart of the beautiful Cairngorms National Park, and in the shadow of the Cairngorm Mountain itself – you’ll be swimming in the cool clean water of Loch Morlich, Biking on superb trails in the huge Glenmore Forest, and finishing yourself off with a scenic run through stunning woodland and open hillsides.
Outdoor-lovers have a choice of two distances:
This Standard distance race will be a stiff challenge on a tough course in a spectacular location comprising; 1,000m Open Water Swim, 18km Technical Mountain Bike, 9km Trail Run.
This Sprint distance race will be a stiff but achievable challenge on a great course in a spectacular location comprising; 500m Open Water Swim, 12km Mountain Bike, 5km Trail Run.
Aviemore Triathlon will be hosting the Triathlon Scotland Scottish Cross Triathlon Championships again in 2024. You do not need to compete in the championships to enter the event.
Mountain bike.
A mountain bike is recommended for this event. The short course is suitable for cross bikes and gravel bike however the long course definitely requires a proper mountain bike.

The Aviemore Triathlon is based at the Badaguish Centre, right in the middle of the forest.
On-site camping pitches and Camping Pods will be available at the Badaguish Centre for a small charge. The site has showers, toilets, and acres of picturesque grassy goodness.
There are lots of other accommodation options in the Glenmore valley and in the nearby ski village of Aviemore (where there are also lots of shops, restaurants and visitor activities).
Aviemore and the Rothiemurcus/Glenmore are are very well set up for an overnight stay, and longer visits as part of your trip to Aviemore Triathlon.
There are good accommodation options at race HQ itself and the town of Aviemore (which has plenty of Hotel, B+B and Hostel options) is a few minutes from the start line.
There are loads of outdoor activities locally, massive forests, great mountains, lots of visitor attractions (including the Reindeer Centre and the Cairngorm Funicular – both almost on the race course!).
This event is trying to raise its sustainability game. Yes, it's small stuff, but it's a start, and every bit helps. There are two main changes:
Feed station cups are this event's biggest source of waste so it is completely stopping the use of them. There will be no cups at feed stations. You will need to bring your own hydration system, whether this is a camel back, hydration vest, soft bottle or simply bring your own collapsible cup, carry this with you and it can be topped up at the feed stations.
Many of you love and use them, however, some of them get disposed of without ever getting used. So, when you enter you will have the option to choose "No T-Shirt". The cost of your entry will remain the same, and the equivalent of the cost of your T-Shirt will be donated to the selected charity.
The location really is truly breath taking. Just looking around at the mountains with the gigantic lochs makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Aviemore Tri feels like the gateway race into Scottish triathlon for me. It has a strong flavour of Scotland in one race – a punishingly beautiful location, tough conditions – a feeling of ‘now just get on with it’ that I have only ever had from a couple of races. Scottish MTB conditions are truly epic and far better than the places I have been in England. Lewis Williams
