dESCRIPTION

Start your race with the exclusive opportunity to swim in Cardiff Bay. Cardiff Bay is supplied by two rivers to form a 500-acre (2.0 km2) freshwater lake around the former dockland area south of the City Centre.

Once through transition, you will head out on a 54 mile (88k) fast flat bike route, completing seven 12.5k laps of a flat and fast course on entirely closed roads. Heading out of transition under the shadow of the Wales Millenium Centre you will head along James Street and down Ferry Road. Taking in the sites of the Cardiff International Sports Village and along the side of the Ely you will reach the first turn around point. Flow back in the direction you’ve come, with views of the Millenium Centre, the Senedd and of course the iconic Cardiff Bay. You will then head along Lloyd George Avenue and thrill at the speed on this section, before reaching another turn around to fly down the avenue once again. The lap ends at the entrance to the oval basin beneath the Wales Millennium Centre.

Your run is an out and back run route which you must complete five times, giving a great opportunity to catch all the sights along the way. Head out of transition first towards the Norwegian church and along the cycle path, taking in the sites of industrial heritage that Cardiff is so renowned for. The route is flat and fast especially as you run along the Barrage. The route back gives you views of the Pierhead Building, the Wales Millennium Centre, the Senedd and so much more that you’ll have plenty to keep you motivated as you go for your PB! The lap turn around is right by the Pierhead building, where you’ll double back and head out again to the Barrage. Once you get here a second time, it's time for your sprint finish; along Bute Place, around the corner, and into the finish line in front of the Wales Millennium Centre.

The Sprint distance was my first ever triathlon. I'd definitely recommend this event to anyone, and I've already entered for next year's Olympic distance. David J

This is my 3rd Cardiff Tri at Standard distance and again it did not disappoint... It’s my hometown race and once again, I’ll still come back next year. Eleanor P

This is a very fast course with a pan flat bike and run course. The swim is also very simple... Sam A

Great event. Wanted to take part in this because of its sheer size. Glad I did it was brilliant. Darren V

Last year's Sprint was my first attempt at triathlon. I loved it so much, I entered this year's Olympic distance the following week. David J

The event itself was absolutely amazing! Loads of support even on a rainy day and the transition area in Roald Dahl Plass just made it even more special. The Swim was excellent and really fast in the calm waters of Cardiff Bay. Chris W

Loved Cardiff Tri - completed as my second Olympic distance. Registration day before was nice and easy, good set up of stalls to grab some clobber and we got socks, a cow bell, foam hand and energy bar on sign up. Sarah W

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this one. A well organised event with a super friendly events team. Victoria W
